History of the Department
The Philosophy of the Department shall be to achieve the national goals and objectives of industrialization and self-reliance, the Engineering education shall be geared towards:
(i) The development of a thorough practice in training
(ii) Early broad – based training in Civil Engineering
(iii) Practical application of Civil Engineering Processes.
(iv) Adequate training in human and organizational behaviour
(v) Introduction to entrepreneurial education and training
(vi) Close association of the programme with industries in our immediate locality and the country at large.
The general philosophy therefore shall be to produce graduates with high academic standard and adequate practical background for self-employment as well as being of immediate value to Civil Engineering allied industries.
Aims and Objectives
The general aims and objectives of Civil Engineering training shall be in consonance with the realization of national needs and aspirations vis-à-vis industrial development and technological emancipation. Graduates in this field must therefore be resourceful, creative, knowledgeable and able to perform the following functions:
Graduates in Civil Engineering
(i) To design engineering projects in the field of Civil and supervise their construction.
(ii) To design and make components and systems suitable for applications in Civil Engineering.
(iii) To design and develop new products and production techniques for Civil Engineering.
(iv) To adapt and adopt exogenous technology in order to solve local engineering problems.
(v) To be able to exercise original thought, have good professional judgment and be able to take responsibility for the direction of important tasks.
(vii) To be able to manage people, fund, materials and equipment.
