PROFILE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, PROFESSOR SUNDAY PAUL BAKO
Prof. Sunday Paul Bako is the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University Jalingo. Born in Takum town in 1962, he hails from Donga, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The erudite researcher cum administrator is a 1986 graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Botany; (2.1), Masters in 1990, and PhD. in 2000, respectively. He has to his credit International Certificates in Plant Tissue Culture, and Biotechnology and Plant Genetic Resources Conservation and Management obtained from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, 1992.
With more than three decades of work experience in the University system, Prof. S. P. Bako started his career as a Graduate Assistant with the Department of Biological Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1987. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor in 2006. Before he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University on 1st March 2022, the astute University administrator was the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Kwararafa University Wukari. The digital Vice-Chancellor is an awardee of the Best Performing Vice-Chancellor of the year by Rotaract Club District 9125 in 2018 because of the transformations he brought to Kwararafa University, Wukari.
Being a researcher, he has over 120 scholarly publications in reputable journals and books published locally and internationally. His contributions to the body of science are visible in his mentoring of 10 full professors in the Nigerian University System. He is a member of so many professional and community-based organisations, prominent among them are; the Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON) and the Ecological Society of Nigeria (EcoSON).
Prof. S. P. Bako plays badminton, listens to music, and loves travelling, reading and writing as his hobbies.
