Prof. Mahmood Hamid Umar, born on October 11, 1972, in Taraba State, Nigeria, is a renowned academic and researcher specializing in rural development and agricultural economics. He is currently an Associate Professor at Taraba State University, a position he has held since 2017. Prof. Umar’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the University of Maiduguri in 1998. He furthered his education with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the Federal University of Technology, Yola, in 2002, followed by a Master’s degree in Rural Development from the same institution in 2006. He completed his academic training with a Ph.D. in Rural Development from Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, in 2012.

In addition to his academic roles, Prof. Umar has extensive experience in administrative and leadership positions. He serves as the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension at Taraba State University and is the Managing Director and CEO of MAUHAD GLOBAL LTD. His leadership extends to his role as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Dechi Health Trust Fund, a position that underscores his commitment to community health and development.

Prof. Umar’s research interests are focused on rural development, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection. He has published numerous articles in reputable journals and contributed to several books. His work often explores the intersection of agricultural practices and quality of life in rural communities, with a particular emphasis on the socio-economic impacts of these practices.
